Sown in April for a September harvest, the 2011 growing season was mostly warm and dry, until the crucial cutting time when there were few days free from rain. This 2012 vintage has matured over ten  years in first fill ex-bourbon casks. This understated maturation delicately balances an unctuous texture and malty, sweet fruit flavour. The result is a whisky created with utmost respect, from grain to glass.

The 2012 Vintage is another stunning example of the viscous texture and wonderful depth and concentration of flavour from Bere Barley.

The nose is complex and alluring, the wonderful combination of fruity, floral notes from the spirit and the balance from the oak. There is a taut robustness particular to the Bere Barley that comes across on the nose. On the palate the firm texture and classic Bere Barley stoned fruit glide across the palate bringing waves of apricot, peach and layers of cereal, malty notes. The finish is long and delicate, with notes of ginger and oak spices, and sweetness from the spirit. A beautiful expression of Bere Barley that shows the classic style with its depth and complexity but as ever a vintage specific style sets this release apart from those that have come before.
