Starkbierfest is held every year in Munich with the beers originally brewed in the early 1600s as a means to satisfy the hunger of Munich monks during Lent. Whilst they had to abstain from food, liquids were allowed and so the monks decided to create a beer that was rich in nutrients and calories. Although these beers also pack a high ABV%, the term Starkbier (strong beer) actually refers to the high concentration of dissolved solids in the beer.

Maximator is Augustiners contribution. A big beer, malty and sticky, dark ruby in color with low carbonation and a sweet malty nose.
