Mead, the oldest alcoholic beverage in the world, is originally made simply from honey, yeast, and water. We sell a whole selection of meads and mead type drinks here at Independent spirit of Bath. It's likely by sheer conincidence that so many different societies developed some form of mead at around the same time. Thinning honey with water and letting it sit, allowing wild yeasts to turn the sugar into alcohol. We wouldn't have understood the science but its potent abilities would have not gone unnoticed. Across from our little shop, Independent spirit of Bath, we have the historic Parade Gardens. The gardens have a rich history that dates back to the early 18th century and is the centrepiece of the terrace walk area. In 1709, Richard 'Beau' Nash encouraged Thomas Harrison to build an Assembly Room for fashionable visitors to the spa.

The name of the brewery, which is based on the edge of Bath, was named after the old 19th century Bear Brewery that used to stand on the corner of the Wellsway, in Bear Flat and was described in 1893 as “undoubtedly one of the most noteworthy breweries in the West of England”. Electric derives from how they first powered their brewhouse kettle - AKA the ‘copper’ - the vessel used to boil the wort during brewing to create all that lovely craft beer.
